Friday morning was delightful. President Carter left Thursday on an eight-day European trip aimed at restoring unity to a Western alliance. Water tables are dropping across parched and thirsty Texas, and scientists fear the state may be in the first stages of the kind of extended drought that comes about every two decades. The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at the Episcopal Church in Tryon TODAY from 12:30 to 5:30 p in. Several of our readers have complained about the new hours that will be put into effect at the landfield effective August 1st. They say that if you work the first shift it is almost impossible to take trash to the landfield. The new hours will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday. Little League Ends June 28th The regular season of the Polk County Little League ends Saturday, June 28th. At this time the trophies will be presented and the Polk County All-Star team will be named. The Bloodmobile will be there from 12:30 p m. to 5:30 and the process takes only a few mintues. Rich ard Landis will talk about ••Safety and Reliability of Manufactured Products." Mr Lndis will discuss the •‘good” and "bad" of product quality assur ance and maintenance programs. He will review such events as the DC-10 and helicopter accidents. Mr. Landis is a graduate of Stearns High School in Columbus and Tri-State University. He worked for General Electric for 35 years in application and marketing of instruments for quality control. MONDAY, JUNE 23, 1980 July Show In The Gallery Of The Art Center By Ruth Danis Five well known art instructors of Tryon Painters & Sculptors, one of them new this fall, are showing their work the month of July with the instructors of Tryon Crafts in the Art Center Gallery. This exhibit will give all gallery visitors an idea of the type of work instructed at the Tryon /\rt Center starting this fail with classes in both areas. The opening reception will be Sun., June 29th from 3 to 5 p.m in the Mural Room of the Center. Everyone is invited to this "first time" display of two well known organizations available for in struction for everyone. Following is a list of the TP&S instructors: Ed Ryerson — one of the popular teachers in our studio Ed is a professional member of the Art Club of Chicago and has been well known in Tryon for his many splendid stage settings designed for the Tryon Little Theatre His one man show in our gallery a few years ago was a tremendous success. He teaches all media. Mildred "T" Haywood — our sculpture teacher and also chairman of the studio has been teaching art in Louisiana for eight years. She has studied under many artists from Baton Rouge to Cairo, Egypt. Her work is well known around Tryon and she is very active artistically and Continued On Back Page Price 10c Per Copy Dr.Terry McGuinn Is Lions Speaker The Tryon Lions Club will meet Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Pacolet River Plantation. Dr. Terry McGuinn who will open his practice in Tryon in the near future will be the guest speaker. Dr. McGuinn is a graduate of Tryon High School, Wofford College and the University of South Carolina at Charleston in 1977 and is doing his residency at Spartanburg General Hospital. He is married and has a son, Sean and a daughter, Erin Kate. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John McGuinn. Democrat Women Meet Tonight The Democratic Women of Polk County will meet tonight at 7:30 al the courthouse. A spokesman said that it is important that all members attend as upcoming projects will be discussed.
